What is Salsa Verde?

Salsa Verde is a green sauce made with tomatillos, jalapenos, cilantro, and onion, ranging in flavor from mild to spicy. It is used as a condiment in Mexican cuisine. The tomatillo Salsa Verde recipe is the perfect addition to tacos, burritos, taquitos, enchiladas, or anything that needs a zesty kick!

Ingredients Required for Salsa Verde

This is a list of the ingredients you need, as well as steps for preparation:

  • 10 tomatillos (small round fruit with a green color and papery husk)
  • 1/2 yellow onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 3 jalapenos

Sautee the ingredients in a large skillet until brown, then add 3/4 cup water. Leave the mixture on low heat for about 15 min. Blend all ingredients together and add salt, and this is where our secret comes in. Tomatillos are sour at taste what better way to sweeten it up and give it a delicious taste. We usually add one tablespoon of sugar per recipe but two tablespoons of sugar works well two depending on the taste you are looking for.
